. Flame Azalea

Rhododendron calendulaceum is a member of the heath family. It flowers from April through July. This specimen was found along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Balsam Gap in 1994. William Bartram remarked repeatedly on the beauty of this native shrub during his travels through the South in the 1770s.
